Brand New Flava In Ya Ear: SZA's CTRL

SZA has been on the radar as an underground artist for years. I fell in love with her voice when I heard her Z album's "Child's Play," "Ur," and "Sweet November." Now she has a new album Ctrl. She's gone from underground to main stream overnight. From what I gathered in the Ctrl album, she is facing some infidelity and self-esteem issues. In addition, she gives a voice to women in growth. The beats have changed and it's not as much electronica in the mix, but her sound is still quirky and weird. I've always enjoyed that about her sound.

I must admit I only like a handful of her songs. I gather it's because I am not experiencing some of the issues she speaks about on Ctrl. However, I enjoy Love Galore featuring Travis Scott because, I've been there before. The song is catchy and the video is sinister.

Another track I enjoy is "Doves in the Wind" featuring Kendrick Lamar. The track should be renamed "P**sy," because it's the starring attraction. It has a heavy beat that causes you to bounce your head up and down. But, the song is NSFW.

Finally, in my top three would be "Broken Clocks." This sing reminds me of the hustle and bustle of New York. I feel like she gets me when it comes to her monologue to her ex-boyfriend. She hits it on the head for me, so I could be biased. But, I love her flow.
