Yellow is the NEW Millennial Pink
Yellow has made an appearance and it's here to stay. The color is youthful, androgynous and means friendship is some cultures. The world seems to be gushing rays of yellow in their clothing, shoes and lifestyle.
Recently, I sketched a shoe design inspired by Josephine Baker and her banana dance. Baker reigned supreme during 1920s, so there is a subtle art deco undertone with a modern perspective. For instance, the double t-strap and circle lazar cut-out. Also, the 'ripe' bananas dance around the ankle like a charm bracelet as well as luxurious materials. Dipped in metallic gold and embellished in lacquered jet black studs and detailed with art deco trimmings, this shoe will make you want to move. One variation on yellow is gold. Thus, it was befitting to make a gold shoe and not just a yellow shoe. I wanted the shoe to cause a positive stare and encourage movement.
Summer 2017, I sketched a photo of the Baker banana design and felt the paper was much too small of a canvas for the design. It needed a bigger spotlight to shine. Hence, the art canvas background. Also, the picture below guided me in the direction of lighting and stage presence for the shoe.
Just as much as the design desired to be on canvas, thanks to the movement of the bananas in the painting the design seemingly wanted to materialize. Therefore, I decided to turn it into a shoe. So, I will update you with pictures and progress of the making of the banana shoe. Stay tuned for more updates and soon a video.
