Fall & Winter Trends 2016/Material Girl: Velvet
Since residing in NYC, I have first dibs on what's trending. NYC has a way of being ahead of the fashion curve. Thus, most of my time is spent stalking fashion.
In this case, when it comes to 2016’s fall footwear focus, it's magnifying velvet. Unfortunately, if you grew up during the 90s, then you were probably scarred by velvet. It seemed to take over ll forms of clothing back in the 90s, from velvet crop tops, chokers, pants, and purses. Overkill to say the least. However, I have to admit seeing velvet resurrect itself is nostalgic. It takes me back to my childhood, when life was simpler and people could only be accessed through beepers. Clueless the movie rocked our fashion culture, and no one cared about the internet yet.
Above features a take on a fabric that was once viewed as 90s misfit fabric, glamorized in the arena of footwear. More specifically, designers are modernizing velvet by using contemporary designs and dipping them in color vibrant hues. It's genius.
